Friday, June 20, 2008

Bandits robbed a 29-year-old woman who had just left the Rosignol branch of Republic Bank, of $370,000 around 1 pm yesterday at Bath Settlement after apparently trailing her in a taxi.

Reports are that the bandits who were travelling in a cream-coloured AT 192 Toyota Carina, HB 4318, stripped the woman, Cheryl Rachpaul of Bush Lot Village, West Berbice of her handbag containing the cash. Her identification card and other personal documents that were in the bag were also stolen.

Sources said that Rachpaul who had just withdrawn the cash, was returning home in her pick-up and was robbed when she stopped at a store at Bath Settlement.

She was about to re-enter the vehicle when she felt one of the men tugging at her handbag.
According to reports, the woman attempted to put up a struggle but the bandit overpowered her, grabbed the bag and entered the waiting taxi which sped off in the direction of Georgetown.

Police were not immediately informed of the incident as landline telephone service was down in the area at the time. But after receiving the report, ranks made efforts to track the vehicle down but were unsuccessful.
